In August this year, the Standing Committee on Indigenous Affairs launched an Inquiry into the Proliferation of Inauthentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ‘Style’ Art.
The proliferation of fake Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art is not just theft, it’s cultural theft. The Blak Markets promote ethical trading and an understanding of Aboriginal art in the context of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture to encourage consumers to purchase directly from artists themselves.
